Define Thin Solids

Use the Thin tool to define thin thermal layers on surfaces and assign material properties.

  1. From the Flow ribbon, click the Thin tool.

    Figure 1.
  2. Select the parent surfaces on which the thin layers are to be defined.
If you select a surface that is shared between solids, click the arrow to toggle which side of the surface the layers are added to.

    Figure 2.
  3. In the dialog, click repeatedly to add layers.
  4. Double click in the Layer field and adjust the layer thickness.
  5. Double-click in the Material field and assign a material from the drop-down menu, or select Create New to define a new solid and add it to the Material Library.
Tip: Select a layer and click to delete it.
  6. From the guide bar, execute the command in the following ways:
    • Click to confirm your selection and remain in the tool.

This allows you to continue creating instances and helps you visualize and edit instances with the legend.

    • Click to confirm your selection and exit the tool.

Once layers are defined on parent surfaces, you have the option to define wall boundary conditions on the exposed sides of the layers.
