Symmetry: definition (structure)

Definition

The Symmetry entity is defined by:

  • a name
  • a type of symmetry
  • position of symmetry axes or planes

Name

The name to identify the symmetry is allocated automatically by Flux during the creation of this one.

The user cannot modify this name.

Types of symmetries: 2D domain

The symmetry types and the characteristics useful for their description are gathered in the table below.

Symmetry axis Offset position
versus X-axis X
versus Y-axis Y
Symmetry axis Offset angle
defined by an offset angle about Z with respect to the X-axis

Types of symmetries: 3D domain

The symmetry types and the characteristics useful for their description are gathered in the table below.

Symmetry plane Offset position
versus XY plane Z
versus YZ plane X
versus ZX plane Y
Symmetry plane Offset angle
defined by an offset angle about X-axis with respect to the XY plane
defined by an offset angle about Y-axis with respect to the YZ plane
defined by an offset angle about Z-axis with respect to the ZX plane

Important

It is not possible to change the type of the symmetryby editing its dialog box.

To change the symmetry type:

  • Delete the symmetry
  • Create a new symmetry

Length and angle units

Length and angle units are those associated with the domain.

These units can be edited and modified in the dialog box of the Domain Type.
