Since computing tire forces and moments during a vehicle simulation is one of the most costly tasks, multi-threaded execution
of tire models on a multi-core computer can substantially reduce the clock time for a simulation.
AltairHyperWorks integrates the Comfort and Durability family of tire models - CDTire - from Fraunhofer ITWM. The CDTire can be used in
Ride and Handling vehicle analysis focusing on comfort, durability, and vehicle dynamics.
The FIALA tire model serves as the first stepping stone in full vehicle simulation because it is simple enough to be comprehended
completely by the MBD analyst. Furthermore, the forces and torques produced by the tire/road interaction use a series
of physically meaningful parameters.
This tire is a FE based flexible tire solution from Pratt Miller that can interact with EDEM particles representing soil,
sand, gravel, and so on. The tire model requires a finite element modeling file (.bdf) and other associated files. The AutoTire entity in MotionView provides a utility to generate the required mesh files from a CAD file. The tire can then be transferred to EDEM through
MotionView-EDEM coupling interface. PM-FlexTire software is available as an Altair Partner product under the Altair Units licensing system.
User Written Tire models are implemented as user subroutines that compute the tire forces and moments, and the user road
model is implemented as a subroutine that computes the road height at a given point.
The Altair Soft Soil Tire model provides a way to simulate the dynamic behavior of a tire on a surface that is compressible
such as clay, dry sand, regolith, and ice-covered snow.
MotionView provides the ability to include soft-soil road deformation in simulations using the soft-soil tire model. The deformable
road graphic is created in MotionView using the Road Tools and sent to MotionSolve to simulate the tire-soft-soil dynamics. The soft-soil road deformation can be visualized in HyperView.

Obstacles
Using the predefined obstacle templates, a variety of obstacle types can be created which are superimposed on the existing soft-soil road geometry.
