Sensor: about

Introduction

Within the frame of a transient and/or parametric analysis, the exploitation of results is carried out over the assembly of the resolution steps (solutions assembly). To carry out this exploitation, it is necessary to introduce « virtual sensors » that will be able to « measure », and/or « calculate » the quantities we are interested in.

Use

A sensor can be used to:

  • measure a local quantity such as: the field in a point, the flux through a face, …
  • calculate a global quantity such as: the force or the torque over a part, the energy, …

Definition

A sensor associated to a support, and a formula.

  • The support can be a point, a line, a surface, a volume or the entire domain
  • The formula is either:
    • A predefined formula (energy, force, couple, …), or
    • A user's formula that can comprise an assembly of local quantities, of functions and of operators.

When to create a sensor?

A sensor can be created at any moment during the description of the project.

Sensor created Description
before solving
  • the sensor is evaluated automatically during the solving process
  • the sensor is directly available in postprocessing
after solving
  • the sensor is evaluated afterward with the evaluate sensor command
  • the sensor is available in postprocessing

Possible storage

It is possible to store a posteriori the result with current value of the sensor on condition that the sensor be evaluated, by means of the command Create a result with the current value of the sensor*.

The result of the sensor is stored as an entity in the tree of general data in the entity type Result under the root of the Post processing repertory.

Note: *The result with current value of the sensor can equally be created and stored by means of the command Current value of an I/O parameter
