Influence of frequency: the mesh

Introduction

Thanks to the analytical and semi-analytical formulas presented in the previous section, the PEEC method can determine the partial inductance for volume segments of conductors with rectangular cross-section. It starts from the assumption that the current density is uniform over the conductor cross-section.

This hypothesis is not always valid for structures and operating conditions where the skin and proximity effects are non-negligible.

To take into account these effects, it is necessary to discretize the cross-section of the conductors. It is the concept of mesh that is presented in this section.

Moreover, this technique opens the possibility to apply the PEEC method to rectilinear conductors with any cross-section, provided that this cross-section does not change along the considered part of the conductor and is perpendicular to the direction of the current.
