Define Solar Radiation Models

Use the Model tool to create, delete, and import/export solar radiation models. These models are utilized to calculate the solar heat flux on applied surfaces.

Four material properties of the surface are specified in a solar radiation model: specular transmissivity, diffuse transmissivity, specular reflectivity, and diffuse reflectivity. The surface absorptivity is defined as one minus the sum of these four.

Create Solar Radiation Models

Use the Model tool to create new solar radiation models.

  1. From the Radiation ribbon, Solar Radiation tools, click the Model tool.

    Figure 1.
The Solar radiation model library opens.
  2. Click to add a solar radiation model.
  3. Optional: Double-click on the Name field to rename the model.
  4. Double-click the Side field and select an option from the drop-down menu.
  5. Double-click in the transmissivity and reflectivity fields and enter desired values.

Delete Solar Radiation Models

Use the Model tool to delete existing solar radiation models.

  1. From the Radiation ribbon, Solar Radiation tools, click the Model tool.

  2. Select the model to delete.
  3. Click .

Import and Export Solar Radiation Model Libraries

Use the Model tool to import and export defined libraries of solar radiation models.

  1. From the Radiation ribbon, Solar Radiation tools, click the Model tool.

The Solar radiation model library opens.
  2. Click to export the entire solar radiation model library.
  3. Click to import a previously defined solar radiation model library.
