Define Participating Media Models

Use the Model tool to create, delete, and import/export participating media models.

For a radiation material that is participating, the total attenuation/loss (also termed extinction) of the incident radiative intensity is governed by the combination of absorption and scattering within the medium. The former represents absorption of intensity by the medium, while the latter is scattering of intensity onto other directions.

Create Participating Media Models

Use the Model tool to create new participating media models.

  1. From the Radiation ribbon, Participating Media tools, click the Model tool.

    Figure 1.
The Participating media model library opens.
  2. Click to add a participating media model.
  3. Optional: Double-click on the Name field to rename the model.
  4. Double-click in the coefficient and Refractive index fields and enter desired values.

Delete Participating Media Models

Use the Model tool to delete existing participating media models.

  1. From the Radiation ribbon, Participating Media tools, click the Model tool.

The Participating media model library opens.
  2. Select the model to delete.
  3. Click .

Import and Export Participating Media Model Libraries

Use the Model tool to import and export defined libraries of participating media models.

  1. From the Radiation ribbon, Participating Media tools, click the Model tool.

The Participating media model library opens.
  2. Click to export the entire participating media model library.
  3. Click to import a previously defined participating media model library.
