Linked mesh generator

Definition

A linked mesh generator imposes the same mesh on faces linked by a geometric transformation.

Limitation of use

The use of linked mesh generators is limited to faces.

Principle

Let's consider two faces, one of them (the image face) is obtained by propagation of another face (the source face) using a transformation.

The linked mesh generator defined by this transformation permits to obtain the same mesh on the image face as on the source face. The mesh of the source face can be generated either by the automatic mesh generator (triangles) or by the mapped mesh generator (quadrangles).

The linked mesh generator is able to manage the coherence of the mesh so as:

  • to impose the same mesh on the linked lines and faces.
  • to propagate the mesh in the case of repetitive patterns.

Connection with geometry

If in the geometry context a building option… and associated linked mesh generatorwas activated during the propagation phase, then the linked mesh generator has already been created and assigned to the corresponding faces.

(See § Options of construction by propagation.)

Source entity

If a linked mesh generator is used, the following questions may arise:

  • How to find the source face (or reference face)?
  • How to find the source line (or reference line)?

By editing an image face it is possible to know its source face:

  • from the dialog box, click on Mesh tab, and check the following field: … Face which imposes its mesh to the current face .

By editing an image line, it is possible to know its source line:

  • from the dialog box, click on Mesh tab, and check the following field: … Reference line for the mesh of the line .

Mesh adjustment

The mesh adjustment is carried out on the source face.
