Force/Displacement

Apply uniform loads and/or displacements to faces, edges, vertices, or spots.

For dynamic analyses, each load direction must reference a time/frequency function curve.
Note: Displacement is disabled for multi-loadcases.
  1. On the Project Tree, open the Analysis Workbench.
  2. In the workbench toolbar, click the (Force/Displacement) icon.
  3. Specify which type of entity will have constraints applied.
  4. Optional: If applying to Faces, you can select the Add tangent faces check box.
  5. Optional: If applying to Spots, you can create new spots by clicking Create new spot.
  6. On the modeling window, click to select specific parts on the model.
  7. Specify the coordinate system to which the force/displacement will be applied.
The default is set to the Global coordinate system, which is automatically created upon geometry import.
  8. Specify Cartesian or Cylindrical.
  9. Specify the Force and Displacement units.
  10. Specify Total load or displacement along the X, Y, and Z axes.
    1. Use the drop-down menu beside each field to select Force or Displacement.
    2. Enter the desired numerical value into the text box.
  11. In Non-linear Structural Analysis, specify either follower force or fixed direction force for each axis.
    1. Click the (Follower load) icon.
The icon will highlight. This designates a follower force.
    2. Leave the icon unhighlighted to designate fixed direction force.
  12. Click OK.
