Detach Panel

Use the Detach panel to detach elements from the surrounding structure. You can detach elements from a portion of your model so that it can be translated or moved, or you can offset the new nodes by a specified value. You can also use this panel to detach and remove elements from your model.

Location: 1D, 2D, and 3D pages

Engineering Solutions creates new nodes at the boundaries of the selected elements and detaches them as a group. Therefore, the connectivity among the selected elements is not modified by the detach function.

Figure 1. Detach Elements. In the first image, elements are selected. In the second image, the elements are detached and offset. The nodes defining the corner of the component were not moved.

Detach Subpanel

Option Action
detach elements: elems selector Select the element(s) that you want to detach from the surrounding structure.
offset new nodes Choose to offset the detached nodes.
offset = Specify the amount (in model units) by which to offset detached nodes.
detach all Detach any internal nodes attached to the selected elements.

Detach From Subpanel

Option Action
detach elements: elems selector Select the element(s) that you want to detach from the surrounding structure.
detach from: elems / nodes selector Select the elems or nodes from which to detach the elements.
offset new nodes Choose to offset the detached nodes.
offset = Specify the amount (in model units) by which to offset detached nodes.
detach all Detach any internal nodes attached to the selected elements.

Detach From Wall Subpanel

Detaches elements from the nodes of wall elements. The elements surrounding the wall can be classified as belonging to different clusters based on which side of the wall elements they appear. For each cluster of elements attached to the wall, the shared nodes are duplicated after detachment.

Figure 2. Detach from Wall. The first image shows the original model. The second image shows detach with offset. The third image shows detach with offset and detached ends.
Option Action
surrounding elements Select the elements to detach from the wall.

The elements surrounding the wall must be one dimension higher than the wall elements. The elements surrounding the wall can be classified as belonging to different clusters based on which side of the wall elements they appear. For each cluster of elements attached to the wall, the shared nodes are duplicated after detachment.

wall elements Select the wall elements from which to detach the surrounding elements.
offset new nodes Choose to offset the detached nodes.
offset= Specify the amount (in model units) by which to offset detached nodes.
detach ends Detach the elements at any free ends of the wall.

Clear this checkbox to keep these elements attached to the wall end, but detach the interior nodes.
