Definitions

Field Contents SI Unit Example
EID Rigid Joint Element identification number.

No default Integer > 0)

GA Grid Point identification number of the first grid point.

No default (Integer > 0)

GB Grid Point identification number of the coincident second grid point.

No default (Integer > 0)

CB Components in the global coordinate system at grid point GB. These degrees-of-freedom are rigidly constrained with the same degrees-of-freedom of GA.

Default =blank (blank or Integers 1 to 6 with no embedded blanks)

Comments

  1. The two grid points GA and GB should be coincident (the distance between grid points should be zero).
  2. If CB field is set to blank, the default value is 123456, the two grid points GA and GB move as a single point.
  3. If all six components are not input on the CB field, then depending on the number of free components, the joint behavior of the RJOINT varies.
    • If CB=12345, RJOINT behaves like a hinge.
    • If CB=1234, RJOINT works as a universal joint.
    • If CB=123, RJOINT works as a spherical joint.
  4. RJOINT does not incorporate thermal expansion effects since the distance between grid points GA and GB is zero.
  5. RJOINT element identification numbers should be unique compared to any other element in OptiStruct.
